Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix or Hot Cocoa Mix is something which I make and store for my kids (and for myself) when winter sets in. Hot chocolate is the best thing about winter, my kids love to sip hot chocolate before bedtime, so I have been making this mix for sometime now. Its so easy and quick to make and just 4 ingredients is all you need and in just two steps the mix is ready!!
Ofcourse, you can get hot chocolate mix from store, different brands have them and it is easily available, but if you are a regular here, you know how much I love homemade stuffs; I just cannot digest the fact that, these simple and easy things are sold at a higher price and God only knows what all additives and preservatives and chemicals are added in store bought ones.....I always cringe at the thought of it!! and I guess that might be the reason why, I try to make everything at HOME!! Well, if you can DO-IT-YOURSELF!! DIY Homemade Hot Cocoa is the Best!!
Christmas is just around the corner and this is the time for exchanging gifts, and I like to gift chocolate crackle cookies, chocolates, hot fudge sauce, fruit cake to my friends, and if its HOMEMADE, it gives so much pleasure.
This mix gives the best hot chocolate drink, to warm up wintry nights, its creamy, thick, and super chocolatey!! Perfect to top with whipped cream or mini marshmallows....though I prefer it plain...just pure chocolate and me, nothing in between!! ha!. I can honestly say that this mix is so easy to make and better than the kind you buy. The secret to the "super chocolatey" is the addition of chocolate chips and the dry milk powder gives a sweet dairy flavor especially when mixed with hot milk....creamy, rich, and extremely chocolatey!! This sure will replace any other store bought packets...I guarantee you that!!
The best gift option as well, just pack some into small mason jars or cellophane bags, with written mixing instructions tied with a cute bow, will sure make someones winter more enjoyable.
Yield: About two, 400 gm bottle.
Method:
Put all the ingredients into your food processor.
Pulse it for 1- 1/2 minutes or until the chocolate chips are finely ground. Store in airtight container for up to three months.
To make hot chocolate: Put 2 tbsp or about 1/3 cup of this mix into a mug and pour one cup of hot milk and stir. You can also top with whipped cream or mini marshmallows, though I looooove it plain!!
